HOOD FELLOWSHIPS

The Hood Fellowships were established to honour former University of Auckland Vice-Chancellor Sir John Hood, who is one of New Zealand’s most outstanding leaders. It aims to enhance the interaction between University staff and leading international talent in order to retain our leading researchers, and to attract the best international research talent to our university.

The Fund provides:

  • Travelling Fellowships to enable selected academic staff to undertake short-term research at prestigious international institutions.

  • Visiting Fellowships to enable overseas academics to challenge and inspire research at the University of Auckland.

Setting the standard

At the centre of the Hood Fellowships programme is a commitment to excellence and a selection committee that sets a high bar for inbound and outbound Fellows. Since its inception the Hood Fellowship programme has attracted very strong interest from across the University. As a result, the selection panel has been able to recommend support for a “sparkling galaxy” of incoming Fellows from around the world and outgoing Fellows from within the University of Auckland.

Administration of the Fund

The Hood Fund will be administered by The University of Auckland Foundation, in conjunction with the University. The Foundation will allocate the annual funding from the return on the invested capital in the Hood Fund. The University undertakes that 100% of your gift as well as any accrued net investment income will go to the Fund. No administration fee will be charged. The Hood Fund also allocates an annual grant it is currently receiving from the Lion Foundation.
